New York spent years toiling in mediocrity before the new regime led by Leon Rose methodically rebuilt the roster. Against all odds, the Royals are second in the AL Central with a 9-4 record, led by the phenomenal Bobby Witt Jr. The Mets, however, are also playing some high-level baseball. After a sluggish start, they have won five of their last seven, including two out of three against the powerful Atlanta Braves. Sometimes, people don’t really understand the value of achievements until the player in question retires and there is no one like him.
