Jaelan Phillips Shuts Down Narrative About Leaving Dolphins

The Philadelphia Eagles made one of the most impactful moves of the NFL trade deadline. Adding Jaelan Phillips worked wonders to fix their ailing pass rush, and he’s having the time of his life on his new team.

The former Miami Dolphins linebacker has repeatedly stated that the trade to Philadelphia was the best thing to ever happen to him. Of course, it didn’t take long before some people thought that was a shot at his former team.

His comments rubbed some people the wrong way, so Phillips took to social media to shut down the narrative about his leaving the Dolphins.

“If anyone would take the time to actually listen to interviews instead of making assumptions based on clickbait, they would realize that I’ve been nothing but humble and grateful for this opportunity to play for an incredible Eagles organization. I have never once said a single negative word about the Miami organization. I am grateful for my five years in Miami, but I am also saying that this is an exciting moment and opportunity in my life, and career. These things are not mutually exclusive. Thank you. Go Birds,” Phillips wrote on X.

Professional athletes need to be extremely careful with what they say and the way they say it. Phillips never publicly stated anything negative about the Dolphins organization, his former coaches or teammates, or their fans. Even so, it was only a matter of time before someone spun his comments that way.

Phillips is simply happy about playing for a Super Bowl contender and being reunited with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. There’s nothing wrong with that.

He’s arguably been the best player on the field in his two games with his new team. Playing with that type of motivation and joy, that could continue to be the case going forward.
