Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is on the verge of activation after participating fully in practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Backup Joe Flacco was limited during the session. Burrow’s injury history has prompted fresh questions about his long-term durability moving forward in his career.

During a recent segment on FS1’s First Things First, analysts weighed whether Burrow has anything left to prove despite his evident talent. Analyst Chris Broussard compared his injury issues to those associated with Dallas Mavericks forward Anthony Davis, who has frequently been viewed as injury-prone.

“Yes, absolutely. It’s one thing only, that he can stay healthy. Oh. He is the Anthony Davis of the NFL. Like, great player, no doubt about it. Can’t stay healthy,” Broussard said.

Broussard highlighted the pattern: six games missed as a rookie, seven in 2023, and eight already this season. Since entering the NFL, Burrow has appeared in 71 games while missing 22, among the highest injury totals for quarterbacks during that span.

The analyst acknowledged Burrow’s elite talent and his strong rebound last season, but expressed concern that persistent health issues could continue limiting his impact. The Anthony Davis comparison reflects both players’ transformative abilities when healthy alongside their troubling injury records.

Davis, a multi-time All-NBA selection, has battled back problems, knee injuries, and, more recently, a detached retina throughout his career. Like Burrow, Davis possesses the skill to elevate his team when available, yet frequent absences have repeatedly disrupted team performance and raised durability concerns.

Burrow underwent surgery for a turf toe injury sustained in Week 2 against Jacksonville and has remained on injured reserve since. The Bengals opened his 21-day practice window on November 10, allowing him to participate without occupying a roster spot. He remains eligible for activation at any point during that window, with his status dependent on continued progress during practice sessions.
