Packers Made Rare Franchise History In Loss To Browns

The Green Bay Packers were just minutes away from a perfect start to the season.

It was a scrappy game, and it wouldn’t have been easy or pretty, but it was hard to believe they would lose a game they led by 10 points in the fourth quarter against the Cleveland Browns.

That’s why it’s not a surprise to learn the Packers made some dubious franchise history in the loss.

In fact, you have to go back almost 60 years to find a precedent for what just happened.

“The last time the Packers lost a game where they were leading by at least 10 points and had a shutout with four minutes to go was 1967. That’s how long it’s been. What a crazy game,” Kyle Malzhan said.

It all started with a field goal by Andre Szmyt that got the Browns on the board.

Then, Grant Delpit intercepted an erratic throw by Jordan Love to set up a scoring drive that ended with a tying touchdown by rookie running back Quinshon Judkins.

Finally, after blocking a Packers field goal attempt, the Browns were able to make their own game-winning kick.

This was a big blow to a Packers team that looked like a Super Bowl favorite in the first two games, and the odds were clearly in their favor down the stretch.

But this is NFL football, and anything can happen on any given Sunday.
