Mikal Bridges Gets Honest About Taking Pay Cut For Knicks

Mikal Bridges came to the New York Knicks on a mission, and he is intent on helping the team win a championship.

He knows that doing that isn’t just about his points on the scoreboard, but his true commitment to the team.

That’s why Bridges recently agreed to a four-year, $150 million extension to remain with the team.

That’s actually less than he could have agreed to, because Bridges accepted a pay cut to help his team financially.

Bridges is now talking about why he made that generous choice.

“If I came here, preaching about how much I want to win, and I try to take every dollar to make it difficult for the organization? I’ll seem like a fraud. That’s not who I am. I want to win bad,” Bridges said.

Bridges posted 17.6 points and appeared in all 82 games last season.

After some concerns during the offseason, it was immediately clear that he was going to be a major asset for the team.

Bridges had been waiting for a moment like this all his career.

He wants to play for a team that can actually compete at a high level and might reach the Finals.

He already had a close relationship with multiple players in the lineup, which is another major reason why he wants the squad to succeed.

This doesn’t just feel like a team to Bridges, but a proper brotherhood.

Bridges has already made a financial sacrifice, and now he is ready to do the hard work on the court during 2025-26.

He’s all-in with this team, and now it’s time to see what they can do.
