The Seattle Seahawks are entering a new era.

Wide receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf are no longer on the team.

That means it’s officially go-time for Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

With that in mind, the third-year player recently declared that he’s ready for the challenge.

“I want to let them know … that I’m proving myself right,” Smith-Njigba said.

As the first wideout taken in the 2023 NFL Draft, expectations were sky-high for the No. 20 overall pick.

He didn’t always live up to those as a rookie, but he posted decent numbers with 63 receptions for 628 yards and four touchdowns.

He took things up a notch in his second campaign, with 100 receptions for 1,130 yards and six touchdowns.

That was enough for the Seahawks to believe that they could have him as their primary target.

He will operate as new quarterback Sam Darnold’s main weapon, and while he may not be as efficient out wide as he’s been in the slot, his production should be substantial.

The Seahawks will most likely use a run-heavy approach, as there will always be doubts about Darnold’s ability to lead a team to success.

Smith-Njigba is 23 years old and is coming off an impressive season, so there’s no reason to believe he can’t make another leap and prove that he is among the best pass catchers in the NFL.
