The Los Angeles Rams returned to offseason team activities with Matthew Stafford back under center.

While the primary focus centers on preparing for the upcoming season and building team chemistry following their playoff exit to the Philadelphia Eagles, lighter moments still find their way into the conversation.

With Los Angeles set to host the 2028 Summer Olympics and flag football making its debut, Stafford faced an intriguing question about representing Team USA.

His response delivered both humor and insight into his mindset about the opportunity.

“You talking about coaching, or what?” Stafford replied with a grin. “Sure [I’d be interested in playing], but nobody’s going to want me to. But sure, it’d be fun, I’ll coach.”

The NFL has already approved player participation in Olympic competition, though restrictions apply.

Each team can send only one player, with the exception of a designated international representative.

Stafford will approach his 40th birthday by the time the Olympics arrive in July 2028. However, flag football presents different challenges than traditional NFL action.

Without 300-pound linemen bearing down on quarterbacks, age becomes less of a limiting factor. Stafford would likely retain both the arm strength and football intelligence necessary to lead a national team.

Patrick Mahomes offered a different perspective when asked about Olympic interest, suggesting he would defer to younger players.

The eventual roster construction promises to generate significant interest across the football community.

Whether Stafford takes the field as a player remains uncertain, but his coaching comment hints at potential future involvement.

His experience and leadership could prove valuable in either capacity for Team USA’s flag football debut.
