Insider Believes 1 DE Prospect Is ‘Boom-Or-Bust’

The NFL Draft season brings a flurry of prospect evaluations, and among the defensive talents drawing significant interest is Ole Miss edge rusher Princely Umanmielen, whose path to draft prominence has been anything but conventional.

After starting his collegiate career elsewhere, his final season performance has NFL decision-makers taking a closer look.

The former four-star recruit began at the University of Florida before making a pivotal transfer decision.

While his early career showed flashes, it wasn’t until his redshirt junior season that Umanmielen truly announced himself as a serious NFL prospect.

He collected seven sacks, nearly matching his production from his first three seasons combined.

NFL insider Corbin K. Smith offered a candid assessment of Umanmielen as he completes visits with the Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals, and Seattle Seahawks.

“Boom or bust prospect IMO. There’s tools to be a productive NFL pass rusher. Run defense more hit and miss,” Smith wrote.

Umanmielen’s transfer to Ole Miss proved transformative for his draft outlook.

In just a single season with the Rebels, he racked up an impressive 10.5 sacks while demonstrating significant development beyond mere statistics.

The Oxford environment seemed to unlock aspects of his game that had previously remained dormant.

At 6’4″ and 244 pounds, Umanmielen combines imposing physical attributes with improving technique.

His remarkable athleticism has scouts projecting him as an early Day Two selection in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

What makes him particularly intriguing is the clear upward trajectory he’s shown – a player still discovering the full extent of his capabilities.

As draft boards finalize across the league, Umanmielen’s combination of physical tools and recent production ensures he won’t have to wait long to hear his name called.
