Falcons Release Statement About Shedeur Sanders Prank Draft Call

Shedeur Sanders’ slide down the 2025 NFL Draft board was by far the biggest subplot that unfolded throughout the weekend before the Cleveland Browns put a merciful stop to the story by selecting him with the 144th overall pick in the fifth round.

An unfortunate video surfaced from Sanders’ draft party of a fan prank calling him pretending to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis and telling him he was about to be selected, and the Atlanta Falcons released a statement after news came out that they were unfortunately tied to the prank.

Insider Tom Pelissero shared a statement from the Falcons on X where they apologized for the incident and revealed that defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son, 21-year-old Jax Ulbrich, was the one who made the prank call.

Divisional rivalries are always encouraged, but this crossed a major line and should never be condoned.

The Falcons were right to get to the bottom of this, and luckily, Sanders appeared to laugh off the incident in the viral video, which had to have been upsetting given all the emotions and stress involved.

Sanders was once in the conversation to be the first overall pick, so his fall to pick No. 144 was shocking and will go down as one of the most surprising draft slides of all time.

Sanders and the Browns will have much less pressure on them now that he is coming to town as a fifth-round pick, along with fellow rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel, whom the Browns also took with a third-round pick.

Cleveland will have two rookies and two veterans in Kenny Pickett and Joe Flacco in their quarterback room, assuming Deshaun Watson is unofficially done in Cleveland.

It’s a low-risk, high-upside move that could pay off if Sanders puts in the work to prove the doubters wrong.
