Chiefs Are Exercising Fifth-Year Options For 2 Key Defenders
The Kansas City Chiefs sustained a heartbreaking loss in the Super Bowl.
Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean they’re done; not by a mile.
If anything, they just need to keep building on their strong defense to get back to the mountaintop.
Notably, that’s why it was an easy decision to keep CB Trent McDuffie and DE George Karlaftis around for a little longer.
According to a report by Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports, the Chiefs picked up both of their fifth-year options.

McDuffie signed a four-year deal worth roughly $14 million in 2022 after the Chiefs took him with the No. 21 pick.
He’s now slated to make $13.6 million in 2026.
Karlaftis, on the other hand, was the No. 30 pick in that draft, and he got a four-year contract worth $11.9 million.
He’s now scheduled to get a big bump in his salary and make $15.1 million in 2026.
McDuffie earned first-team All-Pro selections in 2023 and second-team honors last season.
Karlaftis has logged 24.5 sacks in his career, trailing only Detroit Lions star Aidan Hutchinson (28.5) among the players from that class.
Needless to say, it shouldn’t be long before the team gets them and their agents back to the bargaining table to get contract extensions done.
They’ve both grown to be pillars of Steve Spagnuolo’s championship-winning defense.
The Chiefs will look to bounce back and return to the mountaintop after a disappointing end to the season, and their young stoppers will be crucial to reclaim their spot as the team to beat in the league.
