Joe Burrow Reveals His Choice For Defensive Player Of The Year
The Cincinnati Bengals don’t control their own destiny.
Their slow start to the season has them rooting for other teams to have a chance to make the playoffs, even after doing their part and beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday night.
The team’s defense has been nothing short of abysmal for most of the season, even losing multiple games in which they scored more than 30 points.
Nevertheless, as bad as they’ve been, one of their players has stood out from the rest of the pack.
Trey Hendrickson is currently leading the league in sacks (17.5), and he’s been an unstoppable force off of the line of scrimmage.
With that in mind, Bengals QB Joe Burrow gave him the nod as this year’s Defensive Player of the Year (via Ari Meirov).
“After tonight, I don’t know who else is gonna win Defensive Player of the Year other than him. He’s incredible,” he said.

Hendrickson is currently one of the odds-on favorites to win the distinction, but some voters might not be inclined to support him because of his team’s record.
Even so, it’s impossible to overlook what he’s been able to do this season.
Despite being constantly doubled or even tripled-team, he’s often been an unblockable force.
He combined for five tackles in the win over the Steelers and was also responsible for 3.5 of the four sacks his team logged against Russell Wilson.
It would be a shame to see such a great season go to waste without a playoff trip, but ultimately, this is a team sport.
