Shaquille O’Neal has studied the NBA a lot throughout his life and knows many things about how teams, players and coaches work.

Because of that, he believes that the Los Angeles Lakers will have a “rough start” to the 2024-25 season.

Speaking to “The Pat McAfee Show,” per ESPN, O’Neal said he doesn’t think some players on L.A.’s roster will “respect” new head coach JJ Redick.

He believes LeBron James and Anthony Davis will attempt to keep everyone in line, but members of the team might not look up to Redick because he’s a young, inexperienced coach.

Could this spell trouble for the Lakers?

This is a point that has been brought up before.

The Lakers want to go all the way to the NBA Finals again and they can only do that if they’re a united crew.

Everyone has to be 100 percent devoted in able for them to reach their goals.

Redick has a lot to prove to the Lakers and the NBA world at large.

He understands basketball and has a great mind, but that doesn’t mean every player will immediately fall in line behind him.

It could take some time before he has the trust and loyalty of every player in L.A.

But the Lakers don’t have time to waste, especially since James is getting closer and closer to retirement.

Expectations for the Lakers are always high, and Redick is about to learn that.

If he can convince his team that he’s a leader who can be trusted, good things could lie ahead.

If not, O’Neal may be right and things could be “rough.”
