Jayden Daniels Had Notable Odds Shift To Win NFL Award After Week 1

Rookie No. 2 pick Jayden Daniels made his NFL debut for the Washington Commanders on Sunday and saw his team get blown out 37-20 at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Despite the loss, Daniels was impressive and threw for 184 yards while running for 88 more and two touchdowns without committing a turnover, and the impressive performance combined with some subpar showings from his peers shifted the odds in his favor for one major award.

According to ESPN BET, Daniels was +800 to win Offensive Rookie Of The Year prior to Week 1 and is now sitting at +375 following his impressive Week 1 performance.

No. 1 pick Caleb Williams was and is the prohibitive favorite to take home the award, but he had a miserable showing in his Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans, going 14-for-29 for 93 yards passing and running five times for 15 yards.

Williams’ team overall looks much better and proved that it can win without him having a great game, while Daniels is in a position where it looks like he’ll have to put forth a dominating performance any given week in order to overcome his team’s lackluster defense and take home a W.

Washington has a pretty easy first month of the season in terms of its schedule, and it’ll get to face off with the lowly New York Giants on Sunday before going on the road to take on the slow-starting Cincinnati Bengals and Arizona Cardinals.

Daniels ran all over the place in Week 1, and if he keeps running like that, he could run right into a Rookie of the Year award.
