For years, Klay Thompson was the second-best player for the Golden State Warriors and was called upon often to help carry the team to new levels of success.

Those expectations brought a lot of pressure but that stress and tension will be gone with the Dallas Mavericks.

That is the opinion that Gilbert Arenas expressed on the latest episode of his show, stating that Thompson can relax a bit because Dallas’ offense will always be run by the combination of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.

In the past, Thompson was needed for about 20 or 21 points per game but that won’t be the case with the Mavericks.

Because he will have less pressure on his shoulders, Thompson can relax a little bit and just focus on fitting in with the team.

Even if he has an off night, the Mavericks can still claim victory because of the hard work of Doncic and Irving.

Perhaps this is exactly what Thompson needs after the rough season he just got through.

His percentages dropped in 2023-24 and he wasn’t playing like his regular self.

People had many assumptions about why he was experiencing such trouble, with some saying contract negotiations were worrying him and others thinking he didn’t feel comfortable with some of the new, young talent rising through the ranks in Golden State.

Now Thompson is moving on and will have a smaller workload.

Of course, some Dallas fans wonder why Thompson is necessary if Doncic and Irving will always be in control.

But Arenas added that Thompson can still help a lot and could be a pivotal player.

Dallas just won’t expect and require that he post two dozen points a night.
