The New York Jets are officially in Super Bowl-or-bust mode.

That means they cannot take any risks with the start of the regular season just around the corner.

With that in mind, they’ve decided to err on the side of caution with one of their biggest stars, both literally and figuratively.

According to head coach Robert Saleh, star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams will sit out their joint practice with the Carolina Panthers.

“Didn’t feel like it was necessary to get him rolling,” Saleh said, via Jets Videos.

The All-Pro defender is reportedly dealing with some soreness in his shoulder.

Nonetheless, the fans don’t need to sound the alarms.

Per coach Saleh, the ailment isn’t serious at all, and Williams would be suiting up if this was a regular season game.

Williams, like most of the Jets starters, didn’t play in their first preseason game, a win against the Washington Commanders. Their second game is coming up against the Panthers.

He’s coming off a very solid season, logging 62 total tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, and even one interception.

The Jets need Williams out there, and while they’re all set with Solomon Thomas as another starter and Javon Kinlaw as a potential backup, we’re talking about one of the best defensive tackles in the entire league.

This team — and particularly, their defense — has more than enough on its plate already with the Haason Reddick contract situation, so they cannot afford to be without Williams for an extended period of time as well.

Hopefully, Saleh will be right and this will be just a precaution and not a lingering issue to keep an eye on during the season.
