Dan Patrick Reveals What Surprised Him About NBA Finals Coverage

The NBA Finals are underway.

However, even though the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks should be at the center of the discourse, that’s not the case.

As usually happens with the Los Angeles Lakers and with teams featuring LeBron James, most of the NBA talk lately has been centered on them, even though they were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

That’s why Dan Patrick believes ESPN dropped the ball with their coverage of Game 1 of the NBA Finals.

Talking on his show, he argued that ESPN should’ve had JJ Redick on one of their shows to ask him about his link to the Lakers.

He stated that ESPN shouldn’t allow anyone to “steal” the story from them, as Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news of Dan Hurley being the leading candidate for the Lakers’ coaching job, and not Redick as it had been previously reported.

Patrick believes Redick would’ve had every right to dismiss the question or flat-out say that he didn’t want to talk about that, but it was their job as journalists to ask those questions.

A couple of days ago, even before the Hurley news broke, Redick had stated that his focus was on the NBA Finals.

He also stated that he would address Shams Charania in due time, with him being the one who stated that Redick was the frontrunner for the job.

Redick had also openly admitted his desire to coach in the league, so perhaps something happened behind closed doors.

What we can be sure of is that we’ll hear plenty about that once the NBA Finals are over, as all attention should be on the court and not on a team that hasn’t played in over a month.
