On Friday night, the Dallas Mavericks pushed past the Golden State Warriors and had a 108-106 victory over Stephen Curry and his team.

Speaking to the press after the game, via ClutchPoints, Kyrie Irving of the Mavericks talked about Curry and the respect he has for him.

“I just show respect to the guys like that, he has put in a ton of work for our league he has set the bar for a lot of us point guards of where we want to be, we are still chasing his legacy,” Irving said.

Irving and Curry are two of the best guards of all time, and both hold a very special place in NBA history.

Even though they compete against one another, there is a lot of respect and fondness between both stars.

On Friday night, they had very similar stat lines.

Curry scored 28 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Irving posted 26 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.

This was another important win for the Mavericks, especially because it was without Luka Doncic.

That meant that Irving was tasked with being the sole leader for Dallas, something he did incredibly well.

The Mavericks and Warriors are in two very different positions right now as the postseason rapidly approaches.

Dallas is the fifth team in the West with a 47-30 record while the Warriors are clinging to a spot in the Play-In Tournament with the tenth seed and a 42-35 record.

No matter how the season ends for both teams, Irving will continue to respect Curry and everything he has done for the league.

Even when he is trying to defeat him, Irving holds a special place in his heart for Curry.
