Just months after winning his first MVP trophy, Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers has somehow gotten even better.

The big man is averaging 35.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game, all startling numbers.

On The Old Man & The Three, J.J. Redick spoke about where Embiid ranks in the history of the NBA.

Redick noted that only one player in league history has averaged 35-10-5 for an NBA season: Wilt Chamberlain in the early 1960s.

However, during that time, Chamberlain averaged 46 minutes per game compared to Embiid’s 34 minutes in 2023-24.

Plus, back then, teams took 99 field goal attempts and 35 free throws while today’s teams on average shoot 89 field goal attempts and 23 free throws.

In short, Embiid is doing more with less time, meaning he is much more productive and efficient.

“The production and efficiency that Joel is having right now is all time,” Redick said.

It really is amazing to see Embiid continue to craft and grow his game after reaching such heights last season.

He may become the latest NBA star to win back-to-back MVPs if he keeps putting up these numbers.

The 76ers are the third-best team in the East right now with a 27-13 record.

The Eastern Conference is so competitive that there is a possibility that he will win another MVP and continue to be compared to NBA legends and still fall short of his goal.
