David Carr Was Impressed With 1 QB In Preseason Week 1

Image
(Photo by Cindy Ord/Getty Images for SiriusXM)   All eyes were on the Denver Broncos in their preseason opener. Bo Nix drew mixed reviews during his days in college, and while the athleticism and talent were most definitely there, the decision-making and consistency weren’t. That’s why even David Carr wasn’t so high on the Oregon product when he first entered the league. He also didn’t know whether Sean Payton was the right coach for him, as he’s an old-school guy who doesn’t run a lot of RPOs, which seems to be Nix’s biggest strength. Nevertheless, it seems like he was mistaken. Talking on the NFL Network, the former quarterback claimed to be very impressed with the way Nix performed in his preseason opener. . @DCarr8 was impressed with Bo Nix’s performance yesterday. pic.twitter.com/e4VWW88XKF — NFL Network (@nflnetwork) August 12, 2024 While he stated that he still looked a little hesitant when it came to deep passes, he believes that’s just a matter of timing ...

Report: Steve Kerr Likely To Retire As Team USA Coach

Image
(Photo by Christopher Pike/Getty Images)   Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr may have had a rough time during the 2023-24 NBA season, but he was able to redeem himself as he led Team USA to an exciting gold medal finish in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. USA Basketball was able to overcome host country France in the gold medal game, edging them out thanks to a heroic performance from Warriors’ star Stephen Curry. Curry hit several clutch 3-pointers in the closing minutes to give the Americans the win, earning his first Olympic gold in the process. As for Kerr, he was able to pull off a win despite some questionable lineup and rotation decisions along the way. Kerr drew some criticism for benching players like Jayson Tatum, as well as starting Joel Embiid over Anthony Davis but ultimately it worked out. However, it appears that Team USA will likely have a new head coach when the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles take place as Kerr is reportedly set to step down from the jo...

Details Emerge About Malik Nabers’ Injury

Image
(Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty Images)   The New York Giants are in a bit of a transition year as they look to evaluate the current state of its roster after a rough 2023 NFL season that was marred by injuries. Daniel Jones tore his ACL midway through the year, and though he’s on track to suit up for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season it could very well be his last year in New York. Jones looked great in 2022, but regressed in 2023 due to a lack of reliable receiving options and a banged up offensive line. However, the Giants did manage to strike gold in the 2024 NFL Draft as they had LSU star receiver Malik Nabers fall into their laps at the sixth spot. Nabers has been electric during practices, getting open downfield and making spectacular plays on the field. Nabers did end up getting hurt in New York’s most recent practice though it appears that he escaped with an ankle sprain via Jordan Raanan of ESPN. “There is a belief it’s a minor ankle sprain for Malik Nabers,” Raanan rep...

(Photo by Hannah Foslien/Getty Images)   The Minnesota Vikings’ quarterback situation continues to be uncertain. There have been mixed reports throughout the course of the entire offseason. And while it seemed like Sam Darnold was a lock to get the nod, that might not be the case anymore. According to a report by Dan Graziano of ESPN, the quarterback outlook is fluid (Via The Purple Persuasion). Per @DanGrazianoESPN , “it is not decided that [Sam] Darnold will open the season as the starter” & that J.J. McCarthy could if he hits the “specific developmental benchmarks” over these next few weeks. He also noted that McCarthy is making a “strong impression on teammates.” pic.twitter.com/P08LJ6GGNj — The Purple Persuasion (@TPPSkol) August 10, 2024 Darnold has an edge now, but J.J. McCarthy has reportedly made ‘a strong impression’ among his teammates, and he could still get the nod if he hits certain development benchmarks in the next couple of weeks. McCarthy was d...

Saquon Barkley Gives Strong View On New Rule Change

Image
(Photo by Lionel Hahn/Getty Images for Stagwell)   The NFL decided to ban the hip-drop tackle because there is a major risk of injury that could come with that type of play. In a recent appearance on “New Heights” with Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce, Philadelphia Eagles Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley gave his opinion on the rule change. “I don’t know why everyone’s bugging out about that,” Barkley said. “How often do you actually see that tackle? In seven years, two times I’ve been hip-dropped. … There’s a reason why they banned it, I guess.” A reminder from @saquon as the preseason kicks off: Don’t freak out about the new Hip Drop rule pic.twitter.com/cfs3DNkOCr — New Heights (@newheightshow) August 9, 2024 The former Offensive Rookie of the Year with the New York Giants also said he believes that if the officials do enforce the rule change during the preseason, they may not enforce it as much in the regular season. Again, this is another instance where the leag...
